Sheep and summer

Posted on 22:20, July 3rd, 2011 by Mari

I finally got to try our sheep for the first time, Riva showed an aussie can go wide and work ram lambs that have not been herded a lot and are quite light. There’s still plenty of work for the summer training but the start was quite nice.

Täytyy tunnustaa etten ole perehtynyt miten nämä sijoitukset lasketaan, mutta sijalle 14 ollaan vaakkujen kanssa päästy. Ja Riva saa kuvansa Aussie Timesiin :-)

I have to admit I have no clue how these merit placements are calculated, but it is pretty cool to get a placement with the amount of ASCA trialing we do. And Riva will get his picture in the Aussie Times :-)

Dog working

Posted on 14:50, September 26th, 2010 by Mari

Riva got to do some real work when it was time for the sheep to leave their summer pasture. On Friday I built a makeshift shute and tested with Riva that we can get the sheep to the gate for loading and I have to say I’m quite happy how he worked. We haven’t done much training with sheep this summer but he was listening and stayed (reasonably) calm. Then on Saturday Tiina came with the truck and Riva got to fetch the sheep to the gate again. The loading took some work, the sheep were not very eager to go to the truck and a better and sturdier shute would have helped a lot in loading.

Kitee ASCA Trial August 2010

Posted on 12:44, August 10th, 2010 by Mari

The long awaited ASCA trial in Kitee was August 6th to 8th. Judges were Mike Trembley and Marie Murphy.

Long story short: Riva had four cattle runs and three duck runs. We qualified in one advanced duck run, one open cattle run (-> finishing title OTDc) and even in his first ever advanced cattle run with 96 points! Back when I started with him I never even dreamed we would get this far, he is now just two Qs from his ASCA WTCH. <3 Riva <3

Also Bardi trialed, he got his second qualifying run in started sheep class and finished his STDs title! He is so different from Riva, handling him is quite relaxing.
